When I was a kid, I would "mine" in my backyard, which involved throwing rocks against the ground to break them, and finding the prettier crystals within. Despite going to Uni for a degree in math and education, these *core* (pun intended) interests resurfaced into a passion for geology!
About my science:
Timmy is a very interdisciplinary scientist interested in the development of data science techniques applied to geosciences, with extra experience working with geochemical datasets.
He has worked on supervised and unsupervised learning, data visualization and analysis, and artificial intelligence.
He loves to apply data science to all sorts of geological fields, and is looking to collaborate with diverse fields, from the geochemistry of exoplanet atmospheres, to soils, to volcanoes, to oceans, to rocks!
Ongoing Projects:
Efficacy of Information for Soil Survey Planning | How do you pick where to collect soil geochemical data optimally?
Network Analysis of Geochemical Data | What can we learn about geochemical datasets through the use of networks?
Publications:
Applying machine learning methods to predict geology using soil sample geochemistry, Lui, T.C.C., Gregory, D.D., Anderson, M., Lee, W., Cowling, S.A., Applied Computing and Geosciences, 2022.
